largest whorehouse in Europe has opened in La Jonquera, Girona, close to the Spanish border with France.

The 2,700 square metre venue, called ‘El Paradise’, has cost 3 million € and opened on Thursday night on the orders of the Catalan High Court which demanded that the local Town Hall concede a licence.

It will initially house 120 prostitutes, but has capacity for 150 and is located on the edge of the town on an industrial estate.
Owner, José Moreno, said that all the papers for the venue are in order, and local residents are ‘very happy’. He said he would be charging each prostitute 70 € a day for which they get their meals and bed, and then they can keep everything they earn. He denied that was exploitation.

José Moreno expected his clients to pay an average of 60 € for 30 minutes ‘of company’, but if they wanted to retire to one of the 80 rooms the tariff would rise to 300 €, of which the venue keeps 100 €. Most of the clients are expected to cross the border from France where such venues are illegal.
