Euro Weekly News | Alicante Immigration officers convicted for forging residence permits | Costa Blanca South | News | The Largest English Language Newspapers in Spain: "THREE Alicante Immigration Officers have been sentenced to a 22-month prison sentence for forging resident’s permits for immigrants. Between 2001 and 2003 these permits were allegedly given in exchange for amounts ranging from €600 and €3,000. They have been fined €18,750 and have been disqualified for employment in public office for four years.
The court sentenced them to a year in prison for bribery and ten-and-a-half months, and a further disqualification from office for 23-months, for another count of forgery.
“They took advantage of the large volume of applications, some 24,000, at that time (2001), in order to slip in these permits,” according to the Alicante Court.
Another four people were convicted by the Court for “making contact with foreigners,” and “facilitating the collection and arranging for the documents to be forged in exchange for money.”"
