Spaniard tortured by Morocco police denounces consular service for not helping him

Spaniard tortured by Morocco police denounces consular service for not helping him: "Spaniard of Saharan origin arrested and alledgedly tortured in a Moroccan gendarmerie station in El Aaiún, Ahmed Yedu Salem Lecuara, has submitted a lawsuit to the Spanish courts about his treatment, and the lack of consular assitance in extracting him from the jail.
The lawsuit was filed for the crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity (against those responsible for the torture), and against the Spanish diplomatic services in Morocco for denial of relief to a Spanish citizen.
According to Mr Salem (34), his family contacted the embassy of Spain in Rabat and the Agadir consul on the day he was arrested to attend him in custody. But help never arrived and he alleges he was tortured whilst in police custody.
Mr Salem was arrested on 8 November, when Moroccan forces dismantled by force the Gdeim Izik protest camp. He had arrived there the night before, from Las Palmas (where he lives) to visit family members who formed part of the peace camp. Mr Salem denies having participated in any act of force against Moroccan security forces, saying he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time."
