WANTED: Daniel Dunne could now be in the Malaga area of Spain.

POLICE are trying to trace a man from Batley who has gone on the run.

Daniel Dunne was due to be sentenced for a range of driving offences but failed to turn up at Leeds Crown Court on July 21 2009.

A warrant was issued for his arrest but police believe he could now be in the Malaga area of Spain.

Dunne, 24, was to be sentenced for dangerous driving, causing harm through reckless driving and driving while disqualified and without insurance following a high speed chase on June 21 2009.

At about 9.50pm police spotted a Peugeot 406 being driven at speed around the Wilton Estate in Batley. The officers signalled for the driver to stop, but he raced away from police and a pursuit began.

During the pursuit the Peugeot, which was being driven by Dunne, went through red lights, was driven on the wrong side of the road and down one-way streets and was repeatedly reversed at police cars.

In his attempt to evade the police, Dunne even rammed one police car on Carlinghow Lane leaving the officer driving the car with minor injuries.

He was eventually stopped on White Lee Road and arrested.

Sgt Louise Holbrook of Huddersfield police said: “Dunne was responsible for a number of serious crimes and during his joy-ride across Heckmondwike and Batley that night, put the lives of police officers and the public at serious risk.

“We believe that Dunne left the country and went to Spain in an attempt to escape punishment for the crimes he committed, but we are determined to track him down and would appeal for anyone with any information on his whereabouts to contact the police or Crimestoppers.”

Dunne is described as white, around six ft four ins tall and of athletic build. He has light brown hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with any information on Dunne’s whereabouts is asked to contact DS Holbrook via 0845 6060606 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
