Spain’s Interior Ministry confirmed on Wednesday that one of the most wanted men in France, Guy Orsoni, has been arrested in Madrid in an operation which El País reports involved 16 teams of 60 officers.

The 26 year old is wanted for four murders in his native Corsica between January and April 2009, where the victims were all thought to have been killed in a settling of scores between rival criminal gangs. It’s understood that a fifth killing is under investigation.

He was also wanted on a European arrest warrant issued by France for drug trafficking and money laundering. He was arrested on the French border with Spain in 2008 after officers found traces of cocaine in his car and 88,000 € in cash.

El País reports that Orsoni was being financially supported in Spain by his father, Alain Orsoni, the leader of a Corsican nationalist movement and also President of the second division football club, Ajaccio.

Guy Orsoni was arrested last Friday at a locutorio in the centre of Madrid, where it’s believed he may have gone to telephone his father.
