police have arrested five members of a gang of robbers, including the alleged murderer of a bank cashier in Cambrills, in a coordinated police operation that took place in Bilbao, Portugalete (Vizcaya) and Castro Urdiales (Cantabria).

The criminals, all Spanish, have been linked to numerous robberies dedicated throughout the country, especially along the Cantabrian coast.

The police have searched six addresses associated with the thieves, four in Bilbao, including a restaurant, one in Portugalete and another in Castro Urdiales.

The number and severity of the crimes these men have been charged with make them the most dangerous band of robbers to have operated in Spain to date.

Their most serious crime was dedicated during a robbery on October 25th 2010, when they killed Estela Calderón, a 25-year-old cashier at a branch of the Banco Santander in Cambrills (Tarragona). The cashier was shot in the neck and bled to death. The two robbers were recorded by security cameras.
