ton of cannabis has been recovered from a group of smugglers who contacted the Coastguard for help when their boat broke down off the coast of Murcia.
The National Police said in a press release on Tuesday that the boat was under surveillance when it broke down early last Saturday, but officers decided to wait until it had been towed into port in Cartagena to make the swoop. The three crew members were arrested on shore after loading their boat onto a trailer towed by a vehicle which was waiting at the port with another two members of the gang.
The boat’s cargo was confiscated and another three suspects were later arrested in Cartagena and Alicante.
It’s understood that the gang had been under investigation since February.
