3,200 kilos of hashish has been recovered in two swoops in Estepona and Nerja. Agents from the Agencia Tributaria recovered 1,860 kilos in Nerja, and the Guardia Civil seized 1,350 kilos in Estepona. The Nerja operation called ‘Arrecife’ resulted from a special surveillance operation on the coast, focussing on boats which are potentially susceptible to be used for such illicit activities. Three coastguard groups from Motril detected the 8m semi-rigid inflatable boat which was travelling at great speed with no lights and was heading for the Spanish coast from Morocco. The boat was followed to the Playa de Calaceite in Torrox. Those on the boat were able to escape over land, but investigations are continuing and arrests have not been ruled out shortly. The boat and drugs, packed in 62 bales, have been passed to the Instruction Court Two in Torrox.
