At least ten people have been arrested in Motril for allegedly laundering the proceeds from drug trafficking. The operation was carried out by the Customs Service, SVA, and the drugs unit of the National Police in the town.

Sources say that several tax advisors and real estate dealers are among those arrested accused of helping the drug traffickers to launder their proceeds. It’s thought the money was laundered across the province of Granada, and first estimations put the amount involved at over a million €. Usually property was purchased in the names of front men, along with luxury vehicles and other items.

The police operation started in 2009 after several arrests of drug traffickers in Motril.

The new arrests started in the Huerta Carrasco area of the town on Wednesday and continued into Thursday afternoon.
