46 people have been arrested by police who raided when a fight was underwayPhoto - Ministry for the Interior The National Police has arrested 46 people in Callosa de Segura, Alicante, and broken up a centre for illegal cock fighting. The group used cocks with their crests amputated, and trained to be the the most aggressive possible, and doped with amphetamines, caffeine or strychnine. The fights were usually held at weekends and participants travelled to the venue in Callosa de Segura. Average bets were between 300 and 600 € although the group also organised ‘millionaire fights’ where bets of 10,000 € were normal. The police investigation started a month ago on several members of a cultural association for the breeding and export of fighting cocks of a Spanish breed. They prepared a team to raid the venue while one of the fights was underway and they have arrested the 46 people who were there. Of those six are thought to be organisers. A search revealed 7,000 € in cash, and several barrels with feet from dead poultry.
