Four Britons arrested for extortion scam on the Costa del Sol: "An extortion scam run by a group of recent British arrivals to the Costa del Sol has been broken up by the National Police, with the arrest in Mijas last week of the four Britons involved.
Police said in a press release on Monday that the group, with ages ranging from 40 to 43, were arrested last Wednesday as they were preparing to move against their latest target.
Their preferred targets were British high-income residents of the Costa del Sol who were threatened with harm to themselves or their families if they refused to pay up the money demanded. Europa Press notes that the group demanded a further 60,000 € from one of their victims, after an initial payment of 5,000 € had already been made.
None of the group have been named in reports."
