Spanish police said Wednesday they had arrested Sicilian mafia fugitive Claudio Adriano Giusto after 13 years on the run for murder and robbery.
Giusto, who had been sentenced to 28 years in Italy for shooting and killing a man in 1998, was arrested in the northeastern Spanish town of Alcarras by police working with their Italian colleagues and Interpol.
"After a search of more than 13 years he was arrested in the Lerida town of Alcarras with a false Venezuelan nationality as he was heading to work," the police said in a statement.
The 43-year-old mafioso is believed to be a member of the mafia group linked to Sicilian godfather Matteo Messina Denaro, who has been on the run since 1993.
Giusto was accused of shooting and killing Giuseppe Magaddino with a 7.65 mm firearm and then taking his wallet in Italy in March 1998.
