Galician ‘Carioca Operation’ has uncovered prostitution and corruption in Lugo, with Guardia Civil, Police and immigration workers all implicated.

Already the extend of the corruption is seeing comparisons being made with the Malaya case in Marbella, and some 100 people are charged so far.

The disappearance of several women is being investigated as part of the investigation, and according to the summary of one of the police operations against prostitution a witness, a local businessman, has revealed that a woman died from loss of blood after an orgy in which she was raped by several men.

The woman’s sister has said death was caused as a consequence of a billiard ball being introduced into her vagina, which caused her to bleed out in a question of hours.

The National Police ex Provincial Commissioner, Maximino Losada, accused of looking the other way from the events, and the Chief of the Guardia Civil in Lugo, Gonzalo Borrás, who faces charges of perversion of the course of justice and document falsification, are expected to declare in the case next week.

There appears to be confusion as to what the police do and do not know about the activities in brothels in the region, some of which have been taped up by the authorities. Many of the brothels have suffered fires after they have been raided by the police.
